La Journée du Droit 2026 | Democracy, the Rule of Law and Artificial Intelligence: Rethinking Power in the Digital Age

On 13th October 2026, the Embassy of France in Ireland and UCD Sutherland School of Law brought together academics, legal experts, policymakers and students in Dublin for the third edition of the Legal Day organised by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The event explored the challenges AI poses to democracy and the rule of law, and how power is being reshaped in the digital age.

The event opened with contributions from Céline P., French Ambassador to Ireland, on shared European challenges surrounding AI and the rule of law, followed by introductory remarks from Laurent Pech, Dean of UCD Sutherland School of Law and Maxime Millon, doctoral researcher in public law at the University of Bordeaux.

This was followed by a panel discussion entitled “Who Governs in the Age of AI? Law, Democracy and Digital Power”, moderated by Marie-Luce Paris (University College Dublin). Panellists included: Gerard Hogan (Judge of the Supreme Court of Ireland); Camille Bordère (University of Caen Normandy); Ketevani KUKAVA (UCD Sutherland School of Law) and our very own Edoardo Celeste (Dublin City University).
