SUMMARY:DCN Members Redeker & Spinniello at DVPW IB-Sektionstagung 2026
DESCRIPTION:Just over a month to go until the DVPW IB-Sektionstagung 2026\, the conference of the International Relations Section of the German Political Science Association\, taking place at the University of Würzburg from 21 to 23 September. \nAt the conference\, Dennis Redeker and Chiara Spiniello will present their paper\, “Contested Digital Empires: AI\, Public Trust and Geopolitics in the Global South”. \nThe paper examines how citizens across twelve countries in the Global South perceive and evaluate different models of artificial intelligence governance associated with the European Union\, the United States\, and China\, while also exploring the legitimacy attributed to alternative and emerging actors\, particularly the African Union and India. Drawing on a cross-national survey of more than 12\,000 participants\, we analyse how public trust\, geopolitical alignments\, historical experiences of dependency\, and domestic political contexts shape perceptions of global AI governance and of the different actors contributing to its rules and models.
